Dr. Finkel is an expert who works nationally specializing in aging and mental health (geriatric psychiatry). This includes contested wills, nursing home litigation, personal injury, malpractice and competency.
He is the founder of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) and co-founder of the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) and the American Psychiatric Association Council of Aging (APA). He has received awards of excellence from all three of these organizations.
Dr. Finkel has been retained by the Attorney General's office of Louisiana regarding Hurricane Katrina. He has also been retained by the governor of Missouri to review state hospital programs for the elderly.
Dr. Finkel has been Professor of Psychiatry at Northwestern University where he was the Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and was awarded Secondary Professorial appointments in Internal Medicine and Neurology. He has received over 9 million dollars in research and educational grant and award funding in geriatric psychiatry. He has published over 100 papers and chapters and delivered over 1000 lectures.
