Dr. Greenfield works internationally as an expert in the areas of Internet Addiction and Compulsive Internet use. He has functioned as a general expert and defense witness to legal counsel in these areas. He has been involved in over 20 cases thus far. He has written, researched, and lectured internationally on this area for the last 12 years, including one of the earliest books on the topic, entitled "Virtual Addiction" and has authored numerous professional articles and papers.

Dr. Greenfield is recognized as one of the world's leading authorities on Internet addiction and Internet Behavior and has served as an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Connecticut, School of Medicine. When serving as a legal consultant, his work typically involves five (5) areas of Internet and Computer Behavior:

1) Problems in the workplace due to violating workplace Internet and computer use policies and procedures.
2) Viewing, downloading and forwarding/distributing pornographic images of minors.
3) Cases involving sting operations resulting in the arrest of individuals for allegedly intending to meet minor children.
4) Cases where individuals are reprimanded and/or terminated for Internet abuse in the workplace.
5) Cases where Internet use or abuse is part of a divorce proceeding.

He personally evaluates and treats patients, or he may review case files and offer his expert opinion relating to their computer or Internet behavior/addiction for purposes of assisting in their defense. He frequently educates counsel on background research and issues relating to computer, internet, and digital technology abuse. He has been successful in numerous cases in helping achieve a reduction or elimination of sentences as well as ameliorating the stressful effects of the legal process. He has also been helpful in the treatment of a variety of these conditions, as he works primarily as a practicing psychologist with a specialty in addictions treatment.
