Thirty-five years of experience with the administrative, compliance, fiduciary, conflicts, governance, mergers, terminations and corrections aspects of qualified retirement plans including 401(k), 403(b), ESOPs, profit-sharing and pension plans. Served as a leader and national expert for a Big Four accounting firm for the retirement plan tax, accounting and compliance practice. Work included many Fortune 500 companies and governmental plans culminating in the correction of errors for plans covering over 3 million participants. These reviews often involved submissions to, and negotiations with the IRS and DOL, always included counsel, and in some cases serving as an expert witness.
Experience and education include four years at the IRS National Office as a Senior Reviewer in the Employee Plans Division, and an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University. Author of numerous articles, contributor to several books, authored a book on retirement plan governance, and frequently quoted in the trade press.
