Dr. Cook has been a Program Director for an in-hospital birthing center, and for a faculty midwife service. She has been a Clinical Assistant Professor, and has taught medical students and OBGYN residents. Dr. Cook has attended over 2400 births in settings including academic centers, community hospitals, an in-hospital birth center, a free-standing birth center, homes, and a mission hospital in a developing country. This dovetailing of experiences has provided her with a skill set beyond those of basic midwifery and nurse practitioner standards. Her clinical experience has included obstetrics, gynecology, newborn care, limited OBG sonography, tongue tie revisions, and cesarean first assisting services.
As a Program Director of two new services, in less than 5 years Dr. Cook grew her team from a budgeted pool of 2.0 FTEs to 14.0 FTEs, opened a satellite clinic, and laid the groundwork for a second satellite clinic. While many facilities struggle to keep their maternity practices financially stable, in 5 years the institutional net revenue from her team of midwives was approximately $22.86M, and net income $9.94M. Dr. Cook enjoys every facet of maternity care, including the ability to engage with colleagues and the medicolegal community as an expert witness.
